****Becoming imitators of God ****
God has called us to imitate Him and there are many ways to do it but today we shall only look at 3 ways. To imitate means to copy or to take after a person.(Ephesians 5:1-2)
You cannot imitate someone unless you know their heart and thoughts and likewise you cannot imitate God unless you know His heart and thoughts. Therefore the 3 ways in which we can imitate God best are;
1. God is an intimate relater and His basis of relation is love. He truly loves us and would like us to relate to us in this way and that’s why as Pentecostal churches, we capitalize on love. God has chosen to know each one of us personally and that’s why he sent His only son to die for our sins.
The first commandment “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5) is thus because God has already loved us and since he wants us to imitate Him, we have to do the same.
2. God is a well wisher and a promoter.
God has called us to speak well of others. Ephesians 1:3
The word blessed in this context means “to speak well.” God doesn’t only call Abraham to be intimate with Him but calls Him to also be promoted. For example, the house of the Lord has both financial and spiritual needs but you could choose to be bless some spiritual orphans to the lost youth by adopting them to guide and mentor them in their salvation.
3. God is a giver and a lover
Love and giving go hand in hand and that’s why the bible says in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Likewise, since he gave us His best, we must strive to be best in whatever we are. Be the best employee, mother, father, friend, worshipper etc.
Therefore to a great extent, what you give in church, your home or workplace is the measure of the love and value you attach to those things hence genuine and sacrificial giving is the greatest sign of love.
